When Rebecca
arrived back in the hospital yet again, after being home, she
was disappointed and sad. This was to become the room where
Rebecca would spend her final months and days, a place where
all those who loved her could visit, keep her updated on their
lives and share with her how much she meant to them.
Before one of their frequent visits, Dave, Rebecca’s brother
and her Aunt Joanie asked Rebecca’s Mom if Rebecca needed
anything. Her Mom felt the room needed “something” to lift
Rebecca’s spirits. So when Dave spotted a floor display of
balloons arranged in the shape of a flower in a party store
both he and Joanie knew it was a winner! Balloons and flowers!
When they arrived at the hospital with the large bouquet in a
combination of white and Rebecca’s favourite colour blue, it
brought a large smile to Rebecca’s beautiful face. Mission
accomplished! From then on, her room was never without her
balloon flower. The room became a garden of hope! Little did
Dave and Joanie know that their gift of cheer would bring such
happiness not only to Rebecca but to so many in the hospital
over the final months of her life?
When Rebecca’s Hope for Leukemia Research was created there
was no question that Rebecca’s balloon flower would become the
enduring symbol of her hope to make a difference and help
others who continue to fight leukemia!
